Catch up on the day's news you need to know.

Or with:

Texas Heritage Festival

Put on your cowboy hat, mosey on over to the Texas Heritage Festival and celebrate all that makes the Lone Star State so special. Tap your toes and slap your knees to traditional Western music as you browse works from local artisans, see historical demonstrations and try interactive kids' activities (think "cow-patty" tossing).

You can also rustle up some authentic Texas grub, say "howdy" to the Heard Museum's wildlife ambassadors and explore the Native Texas Butterfly Garden. The young 'uns can explore the Heard's Pioneer Village, which features eight pint-size buildings typical of the late 1800s - such as a schoolhouse, general store and settlers' cabins.

Want more Western-style fun? There's also the Cowboy Palooza event in Fort Worth on Saturday.

Moon Day

Celebrate the amazing feats of space exploration Americans have achieved at this event at the Frontiers of Flight Museum. This year, Moon Day will commemorate the 46th anniversary of the lunar landing, which took place when Apollo 11 touched down on the moon's surface on July 20, 1969. The event brings together members of space exploration-oriented groups, organizations and institutions in North Texas to talk to space enthusiasts of all ages about what they do and to encourage the next generation to strive for careers in science and technology.

At Moon Day, meet private space traveler Anousheh Ansari, build and launch a rocket, create space art and take classes at the Moon Academy. The best part: Be present for a live talk with a member of the Expedition 43 crew on the International Space Station. (Questions from local kids were sent to the astronaut in advance.) The first 200 kids to arrive at the museum will each receive a Lunar Sample Bag stuffed with 5 pounds of space-related goodies.
