Where to buy 5 New York Fashion Week trends in Dallas

The biggest month in the sartorial world is here, and New York Fashion Week kicked it off in style (pun intended).

From fringe-adorned bottoms to crisply tailored jackets, here are the top five trends from the Spring 2016 collections and where to find similar styles right here in Dallas.

A change in '70s revival

The hippie-chic movement is changing its look a year after it was reborn in designers' Spring 2015 collections. Gratuitous use of suede and hodgepodge patchwork designs were nowhere to be seen this season; the prevalent '70s-inspired trends turned out to be crochets and tie-dyes. Pops of bright color were seen throughout these hippie-inspired looks, but darker neutrals were woven in to stop the whimsical styles just short of color overkill.

Fringe was the most eye-catching embellishment seen on the runway. Items such as skirts, purses and dresses were edged in fringe, giving a flirtatious movement to the pieces. Ohne Titel beautifully integrated the adornment into some of its simplest designs of the season.

Borrowed from the boys

Tailored tops and jackets were displayed in abundance this season, making even the most feminine looks appear more boyish. With the sartorial erogenous zone shifting downward from the waist to the hips, structured styles have a place in the spotlight alongside their antithesis: breezy '70s silhouettes. Architectural designs create clean corners for an overall sharp look, as seen in Boss and Gabriella Hearst's collections.

Pretty in pink

NYFW made a strong case for head-to-toe pink, and the movement was spearheaded by Carolina Hererra's stunning collection. Nearly every look featured the feminine hue and the result was absolutely gorgeous.

  • For the widest variety of shades to choose from, shop at department stores like Macy's, Neiman Marcus and Nordstrom.

It's a sheer thing

Lace, tulle and chiffon were designers' favorite fabrics to use for layering pieces. Though many of their designs were nearly transparent (but not as nonexistent on the runway as undergarments), an undershirt would make most of the looks relatively practical.

  • While the straight-from-the-runway look would most easily be achieved by shopping at a lingerie store, garments with a more conservative take on the style can be found at Mill No.3 and Anthropologie.
