10-year-old Oak Cliff singing sensation Skye Turner heads to Broadway to play a young Tina Turner

The local soul-singing star will take the stage in November for the Broadway musical 'TINA.'

After grabbing Patti LaBelle's attention with her cover of "If Only You Knew" in January and teaming up with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra for one of the group's Parks Concerts earlier this summer, Skye Turner is heading to Broadway to take on another music icon: Tina Turner.

Ten-year-old Turner, an Oak Cliff native, will play a young Anna Mae (Tina Turner's birth name) in the Broadway production of TINA: The Tina Turner Musical. Along with the rest of the cast, she'll take the stage at Broadway's Lunt-Fontanne Theatre starting Nov. 7. The show follows the queen of rock 'n' roll as she journeys to fame and musical acclaim.

Turner got our attention after an online video of her singing LaBelle's 1983 hit "If Only You Knew" exploded on the internet last year. TV star Steve Harvey invited Turner to sing on his show in January and out came LaBelle to surprise her during the performance. Both divas dueted some of "If Only You Knew." Turner later went on to front a Dallas Symphony concert over the summer with a performance of "The Star-Spangled Banner" and "Home" from the 1978 musical The Wiz.
