Doggy date hot spot Mutts Cantina to open new location in Fort Worth

Did someone say "walk"?

Dog owners in Fort Worth will have a new place to hang out with their furry best friends when Mutts Canine Cantina opens a new location this fall. The hybrid dog park-and-restaurant landed a spot in Clearfork, a neighborhood west of downtown, along the scenic Trinity Trails. It's a hop, skip and a bark away from the fancy new Shops at Clearfork development.

Expected to open during Labor Day weekend, the new Mutts will have two fenced-in lawn spaces -- one for large dogs and one for small breeds -- where pups can play off-leash. In Dallas, there are chairs inside and outside the parks where dog owners can hang out and grub on a menu of hot dogs, burgers and custards. Like its predecessor, the Fort Worth Mutts will serve beer and wine, as well as a menu of fun dog treats, such as Doggie Dessert (vanilla custard with peanut butter).

Owners Kyle Noonan and Josh Sepkowitz opened the first and only Mutts Cantina in Uptown Dallas in 2013. According to a statement, the Fort Worth outpost is the brand's first franchise location and will vary from its eastern counterpart.

"Clearfork will be the second Mutts and will be considered the flagship location as a result of the many changes that ownership has implemented," said Michelle Boggs, who is leading franchise efforts.

One thing that won't change: The membership model. Dog owners buy a daily, monthly or annual pass to access Mutt's facilities, which include staff members who fill water bowls and pick up after the dogs. (Yes, that mess.) There will also be a dog washing area onsite.

The company may open another location this year, she added.
