See the evolution of North Texas' craft beer scene, from pre-Prohibition to today

Texas' motto in the craft beer world has long been "a decade behind." But if the industry's growth over last five years is any indication, the Lone Star State is poised to shake that stereotype.

Dallas-Fort Worth specifically has been a hotbed for independent brewers -- 12 breweries opened in 2015 with two more expected to fire up the kettle before the end of the year. Seventeen cities are now home to a brewery, and there are more bars and events than ever where locals can drink in the craft movement.

The beer scene wasn't always this "hopping," however. Legislation enacted as far back as Prohibition hindered growth in the late 20th century, and while we've come a long way, brewers will tell you there's still a ways to go. With North Texas Beer Week (Nov.6-15)  on the horizon, it seems like a good opportunity to explore the evolution of the local craft beer scene.
