Texas breweries shine with 29 medals from international beer competition

Texas breweries raked in 29 medals at the recent U.S. Open Beer Championship, according to an announcement Tuesday.

The annual competition welcomes breweries from across the globe to compete in more than 100 categories. This year's competition was held in Oxford, Ohio where judges evaluated more than 7,000 beers.

Texas showed up in categories across the board, winning in style from light to dark and American to international. Of the 29 medals, 13 were awarded to breweries in North Texas. The biggest Lone Star winner was Fredericksburg's Altstadt Brewery, which garnered three medals, including two gold, and landed No. 4 overall in the 2019 competition.

The U.S. Open Beer Championship has historically been good to local breweries. In 2018, Peticolas Brewing Co. in Dallas was named grand champion with five medals, including three gold.
