'We make a beer with ramen noodles, so Peeps isn't really a stretch' says D-FW brewer of purple glitter beer

Peeps candies are staples of the Easter season. But this year, locals 21-and-up will be able to enjoy them in a new way — in beer.

The Collective Brewing Project in Fort Worth teamed up with the folks from local bar Lone Star Taps and Caps to create a unique recipe fitting for the holiday.

Called Peep This Collab, the beer is a sour ale brewed with Peeps, vanilla, lemon and butterfly pea flower, which will turn the beverage purple. Brewers added more than 30 boxes of the marshmallow candy, says Steven Roman, general manager of Taps and Caps. And once the beer has fermented, they'll add edible glitter to really make it shine.

The collaboration throws brewing convention to the wind — and that's precisely the point, says Ryan Deyo, Collective's head brewer and co-founder.

"Several of us were just sitting around the brewery talking about how beer has become this super serious thing. I've been on a kick to assert beer should be a fun thing," Deyo says. "We make a beer with ramen noodles, so Peeps isn't really a stretch."

Lone Star Taps and Caps has made a habit of collaborating with local breweries on special recipes. The bar previously teamed up with Cobra Brewing Co. and Martin House Brewing Co. to release two hip-hop-inspired beers called All Eyez on Me (an imperial stout) and Big Hoppa (a triple IPA), the artwork for which featured Taps and Caps owners Rick and Sam Ali, respectively.

"It's definitely a continuation of our passion," says Roman of the projects. "It goes much deeper than just selling beer."

As far as flavor, Deyo says drinkers can expect Peep This Collab to taste "marshmallow-y" and "lightly tart."

The brewery plans to release it Friday, March 30 and make it available on draft in its taproom beginning at 6 p.m. Kegs of the beer will also be tapped at Lone Star Taps and Caps locations in Fort Worth and Lewisville on Saturday, March 31 at 6 p.m.

Otherwise you can get it at BrainDead Brewing in Deep Ellum, Craft Pride in Austin and Hops Meet Barley in Houston the first week of April.

We recently got to taste test the beer, check it out:
