New Texas brewery has star power from ‘Supernatural’ and ‘Duck Dynasty’

Fans of the show Supernatural know actor Jensen Ackles as Dean Winchester, who travels the country with his brother Sam (fellow Texan Jared Padalecki) hunting and investigating creatures that are, you know, supernatural.

But the native North Texan will soon be known in another role: brewery owner.

According to the Austin360, Ackles is opening a new brewery in Dripping Springs, Texas with his wife Danneel, brother-in-law Gino Graul and in-laws Ed and Debby Graul. The spot is called Family Business Beer Co., a reference to both literally being in business with the family and a shout-out to Supernatural, Ackles told the pub. Fans will recall the show's catchphrase, "Saving people, hunting things: the family business."

The brewery is slated to open Jan. 10 — coincidentally, right before Supernatural returns to the airwaves on Jan. 18.

The brewery is reportedly located on 15 acres in the Texas Hill Country, less than six miles from the renown Hamilton Pool Preserve, and includes a taproom, outdoor playground, stage for live music, backyard games and a food trailer called Jep's Southern Roots, which is owned by Duck Dynasty stars Jep and Jessica Robertson, according to Eater Austin. The trailer will serve Southern staples like po' boys and jambalaya, the pub reports.

Ackles and family tapped Nate Seale, formerly of Austin's (512) Brewing Co., to helm brewing operations. Offerings include Hamilton Pale ale, Cosmic Cowboy IPA, Fox Rye Lager, Grackle Hill Country Imperial Stout, Haulin' Oats Brown Ale and Ghost White IPA.

"We want to brew the type of beers that we want to drink on a daily basis," Seale told Eater Austin. "Beers that are approachable and have wide appeal, but we're not trying to dumb things down for people."

Once open, Family Business Beer Co. will serve patrons Wednesday through Friday 3 to 10 p.m., Saturday 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Sunday 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.
