Feisty Blonde

BREWERY: HopFusion Ale Works, Fort Worth

STYLE: American blonde ale — easy drinking, golden-colored ales that show a nice balance of malts and hops.

THE PITCH: Brewed with orange blossom honey, Mexican vanilla and piloncillo (a raw, Mexican brown sugar), this tasty riff on an unfiltered blonde ale reveals layers of complexity. It pours a foamy head that holds a honeyed aroma. On the palate, it's smooth and balanced, with hints of spice and a touch of bitter hops character that plays well against the orange blossom honey. The vanilla melds with the other flavors, lending complexity more than an individual flavor note. The ale's alcohol content of 8.27 percent tips the scales for a blonde, but it's well hidden, making the ale dangerously easy to drink.

FUN FACTS: In July, HopFusion began packaging its beers for retail sale, starting with the Feisty Blonde and two other styles — Hairpin Rye Pale Ale and Go Easy IPA — with more to follow. In November 2016, the brewery opened its 4,000-square-foot taproom and pet-friendly patio. Besides featuring over 12 beers on tap, the brewery hosts many events, including live music on weekends, trivia nights, free haircut nights and karaoke. Visit hopfusionaleworks.com for a calendar of events.

PAIR IT: Barbecued pork ribs; tacos al pastor; grilled meats or fish with fruit salsas; salads with citrus notes; and smoked Gouda or imported Muenster.

GET SOME: Widely available at stores with a good selection of craft beers; sold in six-packs of 12-ounce cans for about $10.99.
