Beer buzz: Lakewood's latest imperial milk stout is brewed with local coffee

French Quarter Temptress from Lakewood Brewing Co. shows fantastic depth of flavors.

French Quarter Temptress

BREWERY: Lakewood Brewing Co., Dallas

STYLE: Imperial milk stout; a sweet stout with a higher alcohol level than traditional milk stouts.

THE PITCH: Brewed with coffee and chicory, this delicious milk stout shows fantastic depth of flavors. It opens with an enticing bourbon and coffee aroma. The dark roasted coffee flavor and baking spice notes from the chicory balance out the stout's residual sugars, resulting in the perfect impression of sweetness that steers clear of cloying. The beans used for the coffee were roasted at Noble Coyote Roasters of Dallas and aged in freshly used bourbon barrels. That barrel contact imparts a faint back note that complements the coffee flavor nicely. Although the alcohol level is high at 9.1 percent, it's well hidden in this smooth, boozy beer.
