THE BREWERY: Rahr & Sons Brewing Co., Fort Worth
STYLE: Doppelbock; a German style that translates to "double bock." These are full-bodied, malty beers with high alcohol content.
THE PITCH: This big, dark beer has a rich, malty core with burnt sugar, toffee, sweet molasses and coffee flavors. The minimal hops bitterness balances the sweet malty notes. It's a rich beer with a creamy mouthfeel and a sweet, clean finish.
FUN FACT: This beer won a gold medal at the 2015 Great American Beer Festival, on the heels of a bronze the prior year.
SERVE IT, PAIR IT: Serve it slightly chilled (48 to 55 F) to best appreciate the complex malty flavors. Pairs well with roast beef, grilled or roast chicken, grilled game, dark chocolate and chocolate desserts.
GET SOME: Widely available for a limited time at liquor stores, specialty stores and supermarkets with large craft beer departments. A 22-ounce bomber sells for $6.99 to $8.99.
