It's never a bad time to get into comics. You love the characters, the movies and the fandom, so why not start now?
With so many series and publishers out there, it might be tough to narrow down what you want. That's where we can help. Each week we'll profile the must-have comics for the week and recommend some jumping-on points for you to get reading.
This week's pulls are:
Batman #50 | DC Comics
Tom King, Mikel Janin, June Chung and so, so many more.
After months and months of waiting, the big day is finally here. And sure, you may have heard that DC Comics has intentionally spoiled this issue, but we're here to tell you that it's still quite a sight to behold. And if you've held out on spoilers, then you're in for a wild ride with this wedding issue. It's beautiful, gripping and honestly a feat in itself from Tom King, Mikel Janin and everyone else involved.
With all milestone comics, there's bound to be controversy. So whether you agree with the fact that DC spoiled it themselves, it doesn't change that this is still the must-have comic for the week. But it pairs well with something else...
Catwoman #1 | DC Comics
If you're not following the stellar work of Jones, now is the time. Spinning out of the events of Batman #50, Catwoman #1 will surely follow Selina Kyle back on the streets of Gotham, taking down criminals and playing the hero bit -- sort of.
The solicitation for this book promises Selina will go toe-to-toe with the shady members of the Gotham City Police Department. But it also promises something more, that no mater what happens at the wedding, Selina Kyle may be a permanent member of the Bat-Family. Or at least, that's what we can hope for, right? Don't be surprised to see this book (and it's incredible art) show up on some end-of-year lists.
Captain America #1 | Marvel Comics
Ta-Nehisi Coates, Leinil Francis Yu, Gerry Alanguilan, Sunny Gho
What? You thought things couldn't get any more monumental this week? Well, take a seat. This week marks the true debut of Ta-Nehisi Coates and Leinil Francis, a series that should absolutely be on your radar. After the stellar first showing on Free Comic Book Day, Coates and co. and delving deep into Cap's fight against the Power Elite, a new crew of villains set to test all that the Star-Spangled hero stand for.
Cap is the heart and soul of the Marvel Universe, so it's only fitting that one of the greatest writers of our time take us on a journey of redemption and introspection. There's never been a better time to start reading Captain America.
Death of the Inhumans #1 | Marvel Comics
Donny Cates, Ariel Olivetti, Jordie Bellaire
And what wild week is complete without a showing from Marvel's latest superstar, Donny Cates. This week is two-fold for Cates, headlined by his promise to murder all of the Inhumans. OK, so maybe it's not that blunt, but that's what the book is called, and with new, terrifying characters and some face-melting art from Ariel Olivetti, this one is sure to be a ride.
Speaking of rides, Cates is also launching Cosmic Ghost Rider #1, springing from his Thanos run. This fan-favorite character is here in full technicolor, psychadelic weirdness, and we can't wait to see how Cates and artist Dylan Burnett weave this one.
