Who is Larry Hernandez, the recently arrested Mexican singer and TV star?

Larry Hernández's name has been on the limelight the last couples of days, and not because of his talents. The Mexican regional singer is being held without bail in a detention center in California. He was arrested at Ontario Airport on a warrant out of South Carolina last Friday. According to the authorities, Hernandez, 38, was taken into custody on suspicion of kidnapping, assault and assault and battery causing injury.

While the singer waits for a judge's decision, here are more facts about him.

From LA to Sinaloa

Hernández was born on March 10, 1977 in Los Angeles, but moved with his family to Sinaloa when he was 4 years old. He grew up surrounded by music: His grandfather is a musician as well as other relatives. He wrote his first corridos -Mexican folk songs--when he was 8.

He began his career as part of a group called Los Amables del Norte. In 1999, he recorded his first solo album.

Hernández created his fan base thanks to YouTube, where he continually uploaded his recordings and live shows.

16 Narcocorridos

His landmark album "16 Narco Corridos" (2009), a Top 4 spot on Billboard's Top Latin Albums, earned him popular recognition. At the time, Hernández was singing mainly narcocorridos, folks songs around the culture and lives of drug lords and the drug world. Two of his first hits are "El baleado" and "Piloto canabis".

Later, he has had success with love songs such as "Carita de Ángel", "Arrastrando las patas", "Duele" y "Ojala que te vaya mal".

Hernandez has won awards at Premios Lo Nuestro -an award show created by Univision--and the Latin Billboard Awards.

Larrymania

"Larrymania", Hernández's reality show, premiered in NBC Universo in 2012. The show follows the singer's life on and off the stage. The fourth season of the reality show just ended last week and it included footage of family trips to Europe and Hawaii.

"Larrymania", one of the most popular shows at NBC Universo, has opened Hernández's private life to the audience, along with his close relatives: His girlfriend Kenia, his children Dalary and Daleyza, as well as two sons from a previous marriage: Larry Jr. and Sebastián. The singer's mother, Manuela, also make frequent appearences as well as his brother Jr. and Olivia, the housekeeper.

Hernandez relies on a variety of digital platforms, besides YouTube.Currently he has more than 6 million followers in Facebook, 1.4 million followers in Instagram, more than 600,000 in Twitter and 24,581 followers in Periscope, the app that allows users to live stream. Through his social media accounts Hernández has frequent interactions with his fan base.

There is also a fan page in Facebook where supporters of this singer share prayers and well wishes for Hernandez current ordeal with the authorities.
