Bennigan's "has agreed to make room for the washed-up, so-called comedian/newsman" we all know as Jon Stewart. It's the least they can do for a guy who might not have another paycheck coming his way once he bows out of The Daily Show Thursday night.

Stewart would be welcome to join the wait staff at Bennigan's, according to the Dallas-based company's spokesman. As for a manager or bartender position, well, that wasn't mentioned.

"Let's be honest," says Paul Mangiamele, CEO and president of the restaurant and bar, "what's he qualified to do now?"

The Daily Show: Punching politicians since the Clinton impeachment trial

Mangiamele suggests Stewart just "give[s] him a call" once he's out there twiddling his thumbs.

The employment idea came after TV host Larry Wilmore mentioned on his The Nightly Show that Stewart might be a fit at Bennigan's. It was a joke. But really: Leave it to Stewart to actually do it.

We'll update you IN ALL CAPS if that ever happens.

Yes, Bennigan's is still around -- though there aren't any in D-FW right now outside of the airport.
