Christus Health buys prime development site in Las Colinas

The just-purchased property is one of the last vacant tracts in Las Colinas Urban Center.

One of Irving’s biggest employers is growing its property footprint.

In October, Christus Health opened its new headquarters built to house almost 2,000 workers in Las Colinas’ Urban Center on O’Connor Boulevard. The 15-story tower is the first such high-rise constructed in the area in more than a decade.

Now the faith-based, not-for-profit health system has purchased another building site across the street at O’Connor and Las Colinas Boulevard. The more than two-acre property is zoned for high-rise construction and was acquired from apartment developer Gables Residential.

Gables built the 14-acre Water Street mixed-use project with apartments and retail next door to the tract Christus acquired. The Gables development on Lake Carolyn opened in 2017.

Christus relocated its headquarters to Las Colinas in 2012. The Catholic medical organization has almost 50,000 employees working in the U.S. and Latin America.

The new Christus tower and the property the firm just acquired are in the same area where Wells Fargo is building its $500 million office campus.
