BYO stands for 'build your own' cocktails at these Dallas brunch spots

Take a moment and think about the last cocktail you sipped on at brunch. Was it too strong? Too sweet? Maybe you found yourself asking, “Did I just pay $8 for a glass of orange juice with a splash of champagne?”

Whether or not you liked it, one thing is certain – once the bartender took your order, it was out of your control.

With so many brunch options in Dallas, settling seems like a shame. Next time you’re looking for the perfect morning cocktail, build your own and customize your buzz at these two restaurants.

Henry’s Majestic

This casual, rustic-chic restaurant known for its creative menu urges brunch-goers to craft their own mimosa with the Sparkling Bar.

First, “chose your sparkle” – either cava, prosecco, sparkling rose, or champagne. Diners receive an elegant glass of bubbly and a small carafe, so they can make the drink as strong as desired. From there, Henry’s offers a bar of house-made cordials, seasonal fruits and fresh juices so patrons can garnish their drinks. On a recent visit, I dressed my prosecco with blackberry puree, white cranberry juice, Lillet raspberries and Angostura blueberries.

The spirited ambiance of Henry’s Majestic welcomes light-hearted silliness and turns first-time visitors into regulars.

State and Allen Kitchen and Bar

State and Allen’s brunch claim to fame is “Uptown’s best and only Bloody Mary bar.”

Grab some friends and brunch outside on the patio while indulging in a Bloody Mary customized to your taste ($5). To start, you receive a pint glass with a generous shot of vodka. Then patrons chose between two mixes, Zing Zing or clamato, and top it off with something salty, spicy or both. Olives, jalapeños, pickles, okra, asparagus, celery, and bacon are just a handful of the flavors you can add to your cocktail. For an extra kick, experiment with one of the six hot sauce options.

The laid-back, neighborhood tavern feel is the picturesque setting to chit-chat over drinks or indulge in hearty chicken and waffles after a long week.
