Spirit review: The Glenlivet 12 deserves more credit

In the last few years, whiskey has grown in popularity. With so many brands available and new distilleries emerging or redefining themselves, it's easy to get overwhelmed with all the options. This column is here to help you learn the basics of various whiskies, scotches and bourbons before you invest in a new bottle.

The spirit: The Glenvilet 12

There are a lot of people in the world of the peat monsters who tend to write off Glenlivet, which is the highest selling, least expensive single malt scotch in America. Whiskey snobs tend to refer to this bottle as a "for the masses." However I disagree; although it is mass-produced and is extremely affordable, as far as a single-malt, Glenlivet deserves more credit. Glenlivet is delicate and balanced spirit that is smooth and easy to drink, maybe too easy over indulgence is a real possibility.

Glenlivet embodies the everyday whiskey concept, that you don't have to feel bad about drinking frequently.

This entry level expression from Glenlivet distillery has been aged for 12 years. This spirit has a taste of  honey and  fruit flavor that is well worth revisiting.
