Now open near Denton's square: Growler bar, bottle shop The Bearded Monk

Everyone knows that Denton is a funky and cool community with a strong and ever-growing craft beer scene. And it's adding another hotspot to the roster.

Thursday, Sept. 24, residents can enjoy a new business with a serious craft beer focus -- the Bearded Monk. Beer nerd and fellow Booze News Insider, Ben Esely, will open the doors of his much-anticipated growler shop, craft beer retail store and bar on McKinney Street, just off the Denton Square.

Esely has been a longtime evangelist for craft beer, passionately "preaching the gospel" and writing for his blog, Beer Drinkers Society, and for Dallas Morning News and GuideLive for the last several years.

"Opening a retail location was the obvious next step so I could share the great beer I've found and what I've learned with my neighbors," Esely says.

The Bearded Monk will open its 2,200-square-foot bar with 21 taps for growler fills and bar service, around 1,000 bottles and a merchandise section dedicated to local makers such as DSC Designs and Vile Victorian. It will also sell clothing and glassware from local breweries.

Beyond beer, Esely has been working to support Denton creatives by lining up artists to showcase in the Bearded Monk and working on campaigns like The Greater Denton Art Council's #IAmDentonArts, which aims to spotlight the local arts community.

"I originally fell in love with this town because of its inherent creativity and now I have a place to support local artists and creators too," says Esely. "These have been two of my big passions for Denton since I moved here for college."

In the coming months, the Bearded Monk will be supporting local events that strengthen Denton's culture and the craft beer community.

So if you are out and about in Denton, be sure to drop by the new spot. In fact, if you're looking for a reason to visit, the Bearded Monk is worthy of a special trip to Denton to check it out, along with all the other great craft beer spots in town.

The Bearded Monk is open Monday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to midnight and Sunday from noon to 10 p.m. at 122 E. McKinney St., Denton.
