Follow along with Troy Aikman’s residential real estate merry-go-round

The question of the week is where will Troy Aikman find temporary shelter. As has been reported, his current home in Highland Park sold last week for $5.4 million. His new home in Highland Park is not ready -- not even close.

The talk among those who know is that he plans to live in a large and elegant high-rise condo.

The Super Bowl-winning quarterback and Super Bowl-calling broadcaster has been on a bit of a real estate merry-go-round since he and his wife, Rhonda, split. The couple had owned a stunning Mediterranean home on Highland Drive overlooking Highland Park's Hackberry Creek. Their April 2011 divorce was followed by a for-sale sign in the yard.

In 2013, Troy bought his current 10,662-square-foot home on a quiet street in Highland Park's Mount Vernon Estates, but he never planned to stay long.

Just 90 days later, he paid $4.3 million for the home of author (and my predecessor in this column) Jane Wolfe, located on a high promontory overlooking Turtle Creek. He planned to raze the house and build new. The only problem was that Wolfe had moved to New York and leased it to tenants. They stayed on for a few more months. Once their lease expired and they vacated, Troy sent in the bulldozers.

Construction recently began on the new house. A sub-basement has been carved out of the bedrock and some concrete poured, but it will be many months before it is ready to occupy.

In the meantime, a buyer swooped in for his current house. It closed last week for $5.4 million or about $506 per square foot.

That leaves Troy making another phone call to the movers.

Historical Society's Dallas pick

The Dallas Historical Society conducted a nationwide search for a new executive director, but the eventual pick was more or less in our backyard the whole time. The job has gone to fourth-generation Dallasite Shannon Roberts, a graduate of the Episcopal School of Dallas and Baylor University.

Most recently, Roberts has been in New Mexico as executive director of the Santa Fe Children's Museum.
