Oak Cliff gets new Irish bar from a prolific Dallas pub owner

Cannon's Corner Irish Pub opens today, Thursday, May 16 in Oak Cliff.

The new bar will be located close to one of Oak Cliff's gems, the Kessler Theater on W. Davis Street, and in between two well-known restaurants nearby, Nova and Norma's Cafe.

Cannon's Corner's owner Alan Kearney has made a swift move into Dallas, having opened Crafty Irishman in downtown Dallas in fall 2016 and The Playwright in the Dallas Arts District in late 2018. According to a press release, Oak Cliff reminds Kearney of the area where he opened his first bar in Dublin.

"I appreciate the history has been well cared for, which is important to me, coming from Ireland," he says.

His new bar is named after a tenant on that block of Oak Cliff in the 1950s, Cannon's 5-Cent store.

While Cannon's Corner might become known for its Irish beers — there's a surprising 25 on tap — it also sells appetizers such as scotch eggs and duck wings; salads; sandwiches; and more traditional Irish entrees such as fish and chips and bangers and mash. Anyone who wants to really go there can order the traditional Irish breakfast any time of day: two eggs, beans, tomatoes, mushrooms and ... a lot of other stuff.
