Belly up to the bar at The Playwright, a new Irish pub in Dallas, and you might just meet an Irishman. Owner Alan Kearney is from Dublin; his accent gives him away.

An Irish pub has to have Scotch eggs, right? The Playwright's Scotch eggs are served with grain mustard cream sauce.

The Playwright is located in the Dallas Arts District, in One Arts Plaza, just a quick walk from the Winspear Opera House, Meyerson Symphony Center and the Wyly Theatre. Its bar is stocked with Irish whiskeys as well as Irish pub food like fish and chips and bangers and mash.

Kearney hopes he's created "an authentic and honest environment." That restaurant space at One Arts Plaza was most recently Proof + Pantry (but had also been Dali Wine Bar, a Mediterranean place called The Greek and a burger joint called The Commissary). You'd never know any of that, with the dark-wood renovation that makes The Playwright look like it's always been a beer bar.

Kearney also operates another Irish pub in downtown Dallas, the Crafty Irishman.

The Playwright is located at 1722 Routh St., Dallas.
