Dallas-Fort Worth may be hotbed for beer brewing, but there are increasingly more reasons for spirit drinkers to get excited, too.
Over the weekend, Witherspoon Distillery opened at a new location in Old Town Lewisville. The company, which makes small-batch whiskies and rums, announced the move in the spring after reportedly growing out of its first distillery. The new spot is a spacious 19,000 square feet, which includes the production facility, storage/barrel-aging area, cocktail bar, merchandise booth and massive patio.
In hopes drinkers come and stay a while, Witherspoon went big on the bar menu, offering more than 10 cocktails from the classic Old Fashioned to seasonal releases made with fresh herbs and spices. (We recommend the Thanksgiving Cheer, a mix of house bourbon, pumpkin puree, muddled sage and ginger beer, while it's available.)
The bar is only open Friday and Saturday, though the merch booth where customers can buy branded clothing and bottled spirits (including mini bottles!) is open six days a week, excluding Sunday. Additionally, the distillery offers tours Fridays at 4 p.m. and Saturdays every other hour from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. for $10, which includes samples along the way. (You must reserve a spot ahead of time.)
