Look inside The Skellig, new pub now open on Henderson Avenue in Dallas

Dallasites trust bar owner Feargal McKinney with pubs. "So that's what I'm going to do," he says, speaking of his newest pub, The Skellig, which opened Oct. 26.

Feargal owns beloved Dallas bars The Old MonkIdle Rich Pub and Blackfriar Pub.

The Skellig is a laid-back pub located in place of the former J Black's Feel Good Kitchen and Lounge.

The bar is named for the Skellig Islands in Ireland. McKinney, who is Irish, took a trip there recently and calls the terrain "absolutely stunning." The tiny islands, in fact, will appear in part of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, expected out this December.

The Skellig is centered on a big, rectangular bar with a Brusnswick antique structure. (McKinney has had the 20-foot antique bar in storage for years and has now finally found the right place for it.) The bar will have 20 selections on draft, including six rotating taps and a cask. McKinney explains the bar this way: "[It] won't be heavily themed, but it'll be European around the edges." That's a good way to describe all of his bars.

Nick Barclay (formerly of Euro-British restaurant Barclays in Uptown Dallas) will be the consulting chef at The Skellig. After closing his eponymous restaurant in 1999, Barclay moved to England and had been operating a small hotel and restaurant, McKinney says. He moved back stateside and is charged with creating a menu for The Skellig that includes popular items at pubs and gastropubs across the pond. Kitchen manager Jonathan Lindsay will run the kitchen once The Skellig opens. See photos of the food and a menu below.

Bar-hoppers to Henderson Avenue in Dallas will find several new spots for drinks. High Fives, The Eberhard and Henderson Avenue Country Club join veteran joints like Capitol Pub.
