Sunset Lounge on Ross Avenue will close at the end of June.
The dive bar with a beach vibe, which is known for its cheap happy hour specials, made the announcement on Facebook. Heather Allen, who co-owns the restaurant and bar with her husband, said they couldn't afford to keep it open any longer.
"We've been owners for three years now and we haven't been able to make any money," she said by phone Wednesday, citing taxes, liquor costs and the mortgage as trying expenses. "We've had several restaurants and never had this problem ... it's very sad."
Allen and her husband, Richard, are considering taking the Sunset Lounge concept to the Florida Keys, but they are also contemplating staying in Dallas and pursuing another venture.
The bar's last day will be June 30, but it's hosting a farewell party on Saturday, June 27 with specials such as buy one, get one free drinks from 6 to 9 p.m.
