Fort Worth legislator one step closer to banning powdered alcohol in Texas

Though federal regulators deemed powdered alcohol legal, Texas health officials are fighting it.

Rep. Charlie Geren of Fort Worth wrote a bill (House Bill 1018) that was approved by the House Licensing and Administrative Procedures Committee Monday, the Texas Tribune reports. His bill would make "palcohol" illegal in Texas.

Some believe the product could become a problem for minors. As in: Palcohol could "make the darkest days of the Four Loko era look tame," Geren told the The Dallas Morning News last week.

Palcohol comes in flavors like cosmopolitan and lemon drop and would be purchased in a pouch that gets mixed with water, juice or soda. It was created for its portability by a man who's into hiking, biking and camping. Palcohol is a way to "guzzle a stiff drink on the go," the Houston Chronicle explains.

But detractors say it'll most likely land in the hands of teens -- because a pouch of alcohol is easier to conceal than a flask.
