What rain? Country music fans hide from downpour in awesome makeshift fort

One of the more inventive strategies was a makeshift fort, where six people hid out under a plastic sheet in their second-deck seats.

"Why would we want to give up great seats like this?" said B.J. Malloy, a Lucas resident who engineered the plastic covering by tying it to nearby posts. It was remarkably dry under there.

Malloy's wife Ceslie Malloy says they'll stay under the tarp "all night" if they have to. They've been waiting a year for Party for a Cause, she said.

Kyle resident Laurie Collins had a similar idea and came armed with Walmart shower curtain liners to shield her from the rain. But she was seated in a level where attendees were required to take cover and had to give up the soggy mission earlier than planned.

Hundreds of other people seemed content to sit in the rain without such inventive precautions. "We have an umbrella and a poncho," said Emily Spence, a Grand Prairie resident who also came Friday night and got rained on. "So why not just stay out here?"
