Cheesy nostalgia: New arcade bar and pizzeria in North Dallas is now open

Updated on Aug. 20 to add hours, price and information about the grand opening.

The grand opening party for Regeneration Arcade Bar and Pizzeria rocked so hard that they blew a fuse. The darkness (and sudden lack of air conditioning) didn't stop the enjoyment of those who were there, though. After all, the Dig Dug machine was still running and spirited games of Goldeneye were taking place on a Nintendo 64 in the corner.

It was a rocky start, but it showed that there was an audience for what Regeneration has to offer North Dallas: Classic video games, pinball and pizza. Regeneration requires a $10 cover charge to get your game on, but machines are set to free play once you're inside. There is also a full bar with specialty drinks beyond just beer.

The arcade has several dozen arcade machines, a dozen pinball machines and some classic video game consoles (NES, SNES, N64 and Genesis) hooked up to TVs. The arcade games range from early classics like Galaga and Donkey Kong to more "modern" (but still throwback) games like NBA Jam and The Simpsons.

The first game you see when you walk in? Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. A perfect choice, as that game (and that series as a whole) evokes the exact sort of nostalgia that Regeneration is going for. Anybody who grew up in the '90s going to CiCi's or Chuck E. Cheese's to play arcade games will feel right at home with the gaming and pizza combination, which isn't lost on the arcade's owner, Travis Hintzel.

"It just kind of feels right to me. Those two things naturally go together," he says.

Regeneration is open from 4 p.m. to midnight every weekday, 10 a.m. to 2 a.m. on Saturdays and 10 a.m. to midnight on Sundays. It's located at Dallas Parkway and Trinity Mills.
