These are all the 'Star Wars' video games coming from EA in the next few years

Star Wars is a big deal, especially right now, hot on the heels of The Force Awakens shattering a bunch of box office records. With Disney and Lucasfilm out of the video game development business, Electronic Arts is positioning itself to be the home of large-scale Star Wars video game experiences for the foreseeable future.

They've already got Star Wars: Battlefront, which has sold extremely well and will continue to be updated with new content (some of which will be free), including a special virtual reality level made for PlayStation VR. They're also encouraging people to stick with Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes on mobile devices, and the massively multiplayer online RPG Star Wars: The Old Republic, which is continuously developed at Bioware's studio in Austin.

But EA has a much longer road map -- and we've now seen a short but sweet glance at a big game that's coming in 2018.

So here's what's coming:

A sequel to 'Battlefront'

In 2017, EA will release a new Star Wars: Battlefront game. They haven't called it "Battlefront 2," even as a working title, potentially because that would cause market confusion with the 2005 game that was already called Star Wars: Battlefront II. Then again, that didn't stop them the last time around.

The team at DICE (who in addition to the last Battlefront are responsible for the Battlefield series) is working with the newly-created EA Motive, and they are "making great progress in building out a significant new addition to the game." My bet: They're working on a major single-player campaign (or at least a story mode of some kind).

An adventure from the creators of 'Dead Space' and 'Uncharted'

In 2018, we'll get an original action adventure game from Visceral Games, the studio that earned acclaim last console generation with the Dead Space series. Excitingly, the studio now has Amy Hennig (head writer and creative director of the Uncharted series of games) leading the story development in collaboration with Lucasfilm.

There was a tiny be of early, in-game footage from the game in the video above, and while looks aren't everything, it looked pretty good.

A game from Respawn, creators of 'Titanfall'

Respawn Entertainment, a studio formed by former creators of Call of Duty, is working on a Star Wars game that is presumably coming "beyond" 2018. EA will only say that it's a 3rd-person action adventure game "that features a different style of gameplay and takes place in a different timeline we have yet to explore with our EA Star Wars titles."
