Head to Chip and Joanna Gaines' hometown if you want to audition for 'American Idol' in Texas

American Idol is hosting open-call auditions for its reality TV show in August and September. Texans, the only spot to audition in the Lone Star State is in Waco on Aug. 27.

Perhaps it's a good place for a reality TV start: HGTV Fixer Upper couple Chip and Joanna Gaines call Waco home, and they've built an empire on reality television.

One of Idol's most successful singers, Season 1's Kelly Clarkson, is from Texas.

According to media reports, Ryan Seacrest hasn't been confirmed as 'American Idol''s host in 2020, despite the fact that he told ET Online "My plan is to be back next year, of course." He's been the host since the show was created in 2002.(Ray Mickshaw / AP)

Anyone who wants to audition for Idol can register online. In-person registration is allowed, too. A tip sheet from the TV show notes that "registration (either online or in-person) does NOT guarantee you the opportunity to audition." Singers need to be between the ages of 15 and 28. Check out these FAQs for more info, including a checklist of what to bring.

Beyond the Waco auditions, the show is hosting events in about 20 other cities, from Spokane, Wash., to Nashville, Tenn.
