'Family Guy' themed bar in Dallas will remain open for several more weeks

A piece of Family Guy has come to life in Dallas. A bar on Henderson Avenue has become Quahog watering hole The Drunken Clam.

The bar from the Fox animated comedy series took over the spot at 1806 McMillan Ave. in Dallas starting Friday, Jan. 4, at 6 p.m. The Drunken Clam is scheduled to be open until Feb. 23. Hours are 6 p.m. to 2 a.m.

[Update on Feb. 5: The bar extended its lifespan, from a 30-day pop-up to more like a 50-day pop-up.]

The spot is usually home to The Whippersnapper, which will return to celebrate its third anniversary at the location after a remodel. (The space used to be The Slip Inn, a beloved Dallas hangout.)

This & That Concepts, which owns The Whip, has remade the exterior of the bar to match that of The Drunken Clam from the long-running series that features hapless patriarch Peter Griffin and his family, along with a group of dysfunctional friends (including his dog, Brian) who frequently drink to excess at their favorite bar that's being replicated here. This & That also runs High Fives, Tiny Victories, Ferris Wheelers and Dibs on Victory.

The interior matches that of the made-for-TV bar. And, of course, no pop-up bar is worth the salt on its margarita glass rims without specialty drinks and some surprises (maybe creator Seth MacFarlane will drop in?).
