Some big voices have joined the rally to raise money to help Dallas theater director Derek Whitener, who was attacked walking to his car in the parking lot of Cityplace Target Saturday night. Actress and writer Jamie Lee Curtis tweeted Tuesday:
Thursday, ABC's Modern Family star and Broadway performer Jesse Tyler Ferguson posted on his Facebook fan page after talking with Whitener's partner:
The local theater community has rallied to Whitener's aid as well with benefit performances and collections at shows. As of Saturday, more than $94,000 had been raised toward a $100,000 goal on Whitener's Go Fund Me page. The Saturday posting about his condition, however, indicates he still has a way to go toward recovery, noting that he can say a few words, but not consistently and can write some words, but only with his left hand.
