Tyler Hoechlin is cast as Superman when 'Supergirl' returns this fall

Supergirl, which said it was bringing along a familiar hero when it announced its move to the CW, announced its Superman on Thursday, according to Deadline: Tyler Hoechlin (Teen WolfRoad to Perdition).

Superman will visit Kara in National City at the start of the series' second season. The show will air at 7 p.m. Mondays on the CW.

As much as the series referenced Supergirl's cousin, it was only a matter of time before show runners had to put a face to the oft-spoken name.

So, that's two folks from Metropolis: Jimmy Olsen (Austin native Mehcad Brooks) is already working alongside Kara to fight crime and at her day job at a media empire.

I guess my one-woman campaign for the return of Tom Welling, who wore the red and blue in Smallville, didn't work. Hoechlin will be the latest in a long and getting-longer line of actors to play the Big Blue Boy Scout that includes George Reeves; Dean Cain; Brandon Routh (who plays Atom on DC's Legends of Tomorrow); Tim Daly and his son, Sam Daly (DC Animated Universe); and Christopher Reeve. Henry Cavill plays Superman in the current Justice League films.
