The original American Idol and native North Texan Kelly Clarkson returned to the prime time stage for an emotional performance of her single "Piece By Piece." So emotional, in fact, the singer herself had to take a step away from the mic to regain composure about halfway through.

"I'm pregnant and it's nostalgic, and I can't believe it's the last season. Yeah, really sorry I just bawled," Clarkson said.

Clarkson wrote the song when she was pregnant with her daughter, River, and now singing it while 1,000 weeks pregnant with her second child, a boy, really hit home, she said after the performance.

She wasn't the only one with the water works on full blast. Judge Keith Urban seemed to be feeling sympathy pains.

Friday morning, "Piece By Piece" was No. 1 on iTunes' song chart and her album by the same name cracked the top 10.

[UPDATE Feb. 29 at 3 p.m.: Fans can now download the stripped down version of "Piece By Piece" Clarkson sang on American Idol. It's available on iTunes.]

Seems the whole world cried together.

American Idol is currently in its 15th and final season. North Texas has a contestant in the mix -- Sunnyvale's Dalton Rapattoni was fast-tracked to the top 10 even before Thursday night's performance. Be sure to cast your vote before next week. Episodes air Thursdays at 7 p.m.
