Watch: 'Fast N' Loud' returns with drag racing, (literal) horse power and nostalgia on Jan. 4

It's been weeks without a high-octane dose of Dallas' devilish Gas Monkeys, but that's all about to change tonight with part one of "Racing a '67 Dodge Dart" at 8 p.m. CST on Discovery Channel.

In it, Richard Rawlings and Aaron Kaufman head to San Diego to hunt down a ride similar to the one Rawlings' father drove when he was a kid. From the time he was about 8 years old, Rawlings would go out on pre-dawn newspaper deliveries in the old beater.

"It made me appreciate, you know, how hard my dad worked, two and three jobs at a time," Rawlings says. "But, it also taught me the value of a dollar."

News Roundups

Catch up on the day's news you need to know.

Or with:

He's found a Dart in the same color -- "beige, beige ... ugly" -- with mostly original parts, trim and rad-as-hell bucket seats.

The goal: Get it souped-up and slicked down just like his 8-year-old self's wildest dream.

Nostalgia's not the only thing on the line.

Challenged by "a couple of Internet upstarts, he changes gears on his big '67 Dart build to transform it into the ultimate dragster," a release teases.

Another roadblock means making nice with Sue of ASM Auto Upholstery, who isn't happy Rawlings took business -- and a lot of it -- to a competitor.

A final sneak peek: Rawlings pals around with literal horse power, as he visits Saratoga Race Course and cracks a cold one.
