SYTYCD: Dallasite Neptune squeaks into top 10 after breathtaking contemporary dance

Dallas dancer Neptune had a decent chance of being eliminated on week five of So You Think You Can Dance, as the show prepared Monday night to eliminate four participants -- two stage, two street. But thanks to a breathtaking performance, Twitter users decided to keep him in the competition, propelling him into season 12's top 10 contestants.

As you may recall, this is not the first time Neptune has been saved by the Twitter vote, which occurs during a five-minute window near the end of each episode. During week two, the first week that dancers could be send home, Twitter users made clear they weren't ready to see the Dallas street dancer take his final bow.

And it's a good thing they did. Monday night may have been Neptune's best performance yet. The contemporary routine, performed with stage dancer Gabby and choreographed by Stacey Tookey, earned a standing ovation and was one of the most heralded dances all season.

The judges praised the couple for not just dancing the routine, which (naturally?) addressed privilege and prejudice, but "living the choreography," as Jason Derulo put it.

This is just one of many highlights for Neptune, who SYTYCD judge and producer Nigel Lythgoe has repeatedly called "simply a dancer" -- no street attached. Check out the energetic opening number featuring Monday's top 14 as well as team street's hard-hitting finale below.
