Dallas-based food truck to compete on 'The Great Food Truck Race'

The Guava Tree Truck, a local food truck, will compete on Food Network's sixth season of The Great Food Truck Race, starting on Aug. 23.

Contending against other five food trucks from all around the country, The Guava Tree Truck owner Onal Perez must travel 2,500 miles along the famed Route 66 for the chance to win $50,000. The journey will kick off in Santa Monica, CA, continue into Flagstaff and Sedona, AZ, Sante Fe, NM, Amarillo, Tulsa and St. Louis and end in Chicago.

Perez and his family serve authentic Cuban cuisine on their truck, such as Loaded Yucca Fries and Cuban Donuts. If Perez were to win the race, he plans on using the money to expand their business and open a second truck.
