Jane McGarry is back! Will host Good Morning Texas

And Jane McGarry is back! Beginning Monday, the former NBC5 news anchor will be the co-host of Channel 8's Good Morning Texas. She will replace the long-time face of theGMT franchise, Amy Vanderoef, whose last day is Friday.

McGarry will co-host the 9 a.m. show with Channel 8's returning veteran Mike Castellucci who was the station's "Why Guy" from 2003 to 2008.

For 30 years, McGarry was one of the most familiar faces of local news at Channel 5. When she left the station in 2012, she anchored the 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. news.

At GMT, her schedule will be reversed.

"To do the things I need to do-to read what's going on and to workout, I'll be getting up at 4:30 a.m.," she says. "But I am by nature a morning person, so I finally found a shift that fits."

McGarry has been contributing Texas Legend pieces to Good Morning Texas since 2013.

"They knew that I was interested in doing more," McGarry says. "When Amy left, this opportunity came up. I get to do cooking and fashion, both of which I love, as well as some newsy pieces. The combination is rare and I feel very fortunate."
