After a decade, Amy Vanderoef leaving ‘GMT’ on Friday

The pending departure of Amy Vanderoef from Good Morning Texas closes one of the longest runs in the show's history. She began in 2006 as a co-host with Gary Cogill, who left TV to produce films, and Brenda Teele Jackson, who now owns a title company. Scott Sams launched the show as a co-host in 1994.

Vanderoef's transition is somewhat less tempestuous. She says that WFAA-TV (Channel 8) offered to re-up her deal. "It would have been my 10th contract. They would have kept me for another 10 years, and I would have stayed for another 10 years. It was in my comfort zone. But I was also looking to do more things than they were offering. I really felt led to take a leap. I'm taking a step out into space even though I can't see the whole staircase."

A former Miss Connecticut, Vanderoef's background is as an actor. "I kind of accidentally ended up in local TV," she says. Her last day with Channel 8 is Friday.

She will continue her radio gig as co-host of the Rodney Anderson Show on TalkRadio 1190 (KFXR-AM).
