New ‘Duck Tales,’ ‘Inspector Gadget’ shows coming to your TV soon

I woke up to the news that after a 25 year hiatus, Disney is bringing back the classic cartoon Duck Tales with new episodes that will premiere on Disney XD in 2017.

A couple hours later, USA Today posted their exclusive news that Netflix is beefing up their original children's programming with new episodes of Inspector Gadget and Danger Mouse, in addition to their already announced revivals of The Magic School Busand other classic kid's shows. Earlier this week I stumbled upon the fact that Netflix already has a new live-action Richie Rich show that is currently streaming on the service.

(To be fair, the new Inspector Gadget is actually somewhat "old," as it's a Canadian-made TV show that has already aired in Europe.)

When previous generations looked for new movies and shows to make, they usually said, "I dunno, can we just do Pride and Prejudice again?" Apparently my generation, now in production but out of surefire ideas, says, "You know, I really liked Duck Tales as a kid. Can we just bring that back?"

Not that I'm complaining too much. These shows were a huge part of my upbringing, and I love the idea that my kids might enjoy the same things I did when I was their age - just through a different lens. That's why I loved the idea of Disney's Girl Meets World so much, even though I haven't actually watched it. There's just something really cool about being able to say, "Yeah, I grew up with Boy Meets World. Now today's kids have a sequel that's made for them."

Unless, of course, all these remakes and revivals don't simply suck. Then I'll probably be bummed out.

Call me when somebody revives Ghostwriter or Superhuman Samurai Syber-Squad, because those can't be far behind, right?
