This may very well be diabetes in a cup, but let's leave science out of this. Churro Alley, which recently opened in April at Carrollton Town Center, is serving up cups of ice cream studded with a giant churro. Grab your phones to snap a shot of this Instagram-worthy beauty, then dive in to #thiswillmakeyoufat dessert.
The Alley 3 starts with a vanilla soft-serve base that comes drizzled with your choice of chocolate, caramel or strawberry sauce and sprinkled with toppings such as Fruity Pebbles, mochi or Oreo crumbs ($5.75). As the star of the show, a cinnamon sugar churro shaped like a loop adds the unique finishing touch.
Our recommendation: Dip the churro in the ice cream, eat and repeat.
If you're not in the mood for ice cream, Churro Alley sells the Alley 1, a classic looped-shaped churro with a dipping sauce, like cheesecake custard or dulce de leche ($3.75). The Alley 2 elevates the regular cinnamon sugar churro with a brushed-on coating of either dark chocolate, white chocolate, matcha green tea or strawberry as well as a sprinkled-on topping ($4.75).
Churro Alley also sells Asian-style hot or cold tea, including mango tea and lavender milk tea ($3.50), or a Vietnamese iced coffee ($4.50).
Churro Alley is the latest addition to the multitude of bakeries, restaurants and dessert shops, like Taiwanese 85C Bakery Cafe and rolled ice cream shop I-CE-NY, at the intersection of Old Denton Road and the George Bush Turnpike in Carrollton. Grab dinner next door at Kula Revolving Sushi Bar, a conveyor belt sushi restaurant, or Gen Korean BBQ House for tableside grilling. With the Korean market Super H Mart as the centerpiece, this block has turned into a bustling Koreatown.
The looped-shape churro plus ice cream combo was first introduced in Los Angeles by The Loop: Handcrafted Churros in June 2016, and Churro Alley brings this concept to the Dallas area. Besides Churro Alley, Carrollton's Koreatown also saw the recent openings of Cajun restaurant Kickin Crab and Korean friend chicken shop Rice Chicken. Keep an eye out for two other openings this summer: T-Swirl Crepe, a New York sweet and savory crepe shop, and Too Thai Street Eats, a Thai restaurant focused on street-style food.
