World's first Pinterest cookbook, featuring all Lay's potato chip recipes, will soon exist

Everyone's gotten that phone call from the parents - or, even worse, potential paramour - announcing an unexpected drop in. You hastily rummage through the cabinet in search of any conceivable "gourmet" combination. Dill pickles and popcorn? Gross, no. Half a container of Cajun Turkey deli meat? Add a block of cheese and that's charcuterie!

That's a pretty extreme situation. Most of the time, "ingredients" like potato chips don't top the list of gourmet culinary staples. That was until Plano-based Frito-Lay announced partnership with Top Chef winner Stephanie Izard and popular DIY site Brit + Co to create the world's first Pinterest cookbook. All recipes will include Lay's Wavy potato chips either as an ingredient or a recommended pairing, and will be developed with customer input via the Lay's Wavy Flavor Fusion Inspiration Page.

How about some Lay's with your salted caramel? We'd try it.

To vote, followers sign in and "love" (that's Pinterest speak for "like" or "favorite") flavor combinations from over 50 choices like "Grilled Oysters and Lay's Wavy Hickory BBQ" and "Red Wine and Lay's Cheddar."

Don't like them apples? How about Lay's original flavor with your sushi or donuts?

You might be thinking that sounds kind of gross or, at the very least, unnecessary. You're not alone. Remember Lay's questionable cappuccino dalliance last fall?

On the other hand, think about great food pairings that aren't supposed to work. French fries dipped in vanilla ice cream. Corona toppled over in your margarita. Hey, even potato chips on your PB&J for that extra crunch factor.

When voting ends, Izard will then create 20 recipes from the most "loved" flavor combinations. The first 20 will be available for download this spring.  Then she'll round out the cookbook in the fall with another voting round and an additional 20 recipes.

Still not convinced? Fair.

But, it's fascinating how social media increasingly affects both corporate strategies and consumer interaction. The world likely had no idea it needed a Pinterest cookbook. Judging by voters' response, it definitely wants one.
