Join the Dallas Historical Society for a celebration of Juneteenth. Learn about the history of Juneteenth, which commemorates the end of slavery in the United States. See the only known original example of General Order Number 3, military orders which arrived in Galveston on June 19, 1865, and declared "all slaves are free." The document will be on display at the Hall of State June 17-23.
The program includes a presentation by Donald Payton, president of the African American Genealogy Interest Group, and musical selections by the South Dallas Concert Choir.
