For more than 30 years, around 50 artists have maintained studios in the 130-year-old Continental Gin Building, one of Dallas’ oldest structures, which has fallen under disrepair and, under new ownership, will soon undergo extensive renovations. But, many call that preservation effort bittersweet. The building will be converted to a multi-use retail complex and the artists, whose monthly rent was around $1 per square foot, will not return. This final open studio event will “showcase a diverse range of art” and feature “live music, complimentary drinks and light bites,” organizers say.
