Mya / John Rose at Canton Hall
Thor Christensen Recommends
Two decades after she first struck gold with “It’s All About Me,” singer-actress Mýa Harrison continues to mine R&B for all things smooth and silky on her latest album, T.K.O. (The Knockout). No one will confuse her recent ballad “Knock You Out” with LL Cool J’s macho “Mama Said Knock You Out”: Mýa’s boxing lyrics pertain strictly to the game of love. On her current tour, she’s been mixing T.K.O. tracks with older hits and a few songs by Sade, Bruno Mars and, of course, Labelle. In 2002, Mýa won a Grammy for the remake of “Lady Marmalade,” a group effort with Pink, Christina Aguilera and Lil’ Kim. Opening the all-ages show is John Rose, a 21-year-old Dallas singer-guitarist with a knack for dreamy electro-pop ballads.
