The Japanese-born, New York-based singer Mitski shifted gears dramatically with “Nobody,” her uncharacteristically peppy recent single. But while the music is happier than usual, the lyrics are classic Mitski: “My God, I’m so lonely,” she starts, before singing “I’ve been big and small … and still, nobody wants me.” That certainly isn’t the case from an audience standpoint. The singer – born Mitski Miyawaki – is on the cusp of moving into bigger venues, having sold out a slew of shows on her current tour, including her concert Sunday at Trees. She also cracked the Billboard pop charts with her fifth studio album, Be the Cowboy, a work that ranges from the pure pop of “Nobody” to more melancholy songs that recall the Cocteau Twins and Jenny Lewis. Opening the show is the Overcoats, a New York electro-pop act led by singers Hana Elion and J.J. Mitchell
