Black Pistol Fire at Trees
Kelly Dearmore Recommends
Sometimes, instead of respectfully drawing inspiration from its favorite groups, a young band can come off as cheap carbon copies of their influences. Austin’s blues-inflected rock duo Black Pistol Fire thankfully, energetically falls into the former category. Although comparisons to the Black Keys, ZZ Top and Led Zeppelin can be made with relative ease, this duo is its own rock ‘n’ roll animal. Vocalist/guitarist Kevin McKeown and drummer Eric Owen, who moved to the capital city together from Canada, will also remind some of ear-era Kings of Leon, proving that a southern-soaked two-piece can come from anywhere and make it their own.
