Towns across North Texas have sprouted their own versions of this traditional German harvest festival, but if you want to get the most of your prost, the 31st annual Addison Oktoberfest separates the wheat from the chaff. Family-friendly festivities will include polka dancing, oompah music, German beer, sausages and pretzels, rides, midway games, bier barrel bowling, yodeling and Dachshund races. For an “upscale Bavarian dining experience,” consider making reservations for a special three-course tasting menu at Chamberlain’s Brau Haus, which offers views overlooking the festival’s outdoor dance floor.
