Wanda Jackson and the Derailers at Arlington Music Hall
Thor Christensen Recommends
Still rockin’ at age 80, Wanda Jackson remains the bona fide Queen of Rockabilly. The Oklahoma native first made waves in the late ‘50s when she switched from country to rock at the nudging of her ex-boyfriend (some guy named Elvis Presley). She hit the U.S. Top 40 just once, with 1960’s “Let’s Have a Party.” But she toured relentlessly — including shows at the Big D Jamboree — and she eventually managed to kick down the walls of the rock ‘n’ roll men's club: In 2009, she was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in the Early Influence category. She performs on March 17 on a bill with the long-running Austin country band the Derailers.
