Last of the Street Survivors Farewell Tour: Lynyrd Skynyrd / Bad Company / Outlaws / Jamey Johnson at Dos Equis Pavilion (formerly Starplex Pavilion)
Darryl Smyers Recommends
Supposedly calling it quits after nearly half a century of genre-defining southern rock, Lynyrd Skynyrd is playing a farewell tour at the recently renamed Starplex Pavilion. With many of its members in their late 60s, it was probably a matter of time before this blues and boogie juggernaut came to an end, but many were wrong to think that the plane crash that killed Ronnie Van Zant, Steve Gaines and Cassie Gaines way back in 1977 would be Skynyrd’s epitaph. There’s no discounting radio staples such as “Free Bird,” “Sweet Home Alabama” and “What’s Your Name” along with the countless fan favorites and deep cuts that have forever etched this band as rock ‘n’ roll legends. Next to Creedence Clearwater Revival, there simply isn’t a more fundamentally American rock ‘n’ roll band on the planet than Lynyrd Skynyrd.
