Dream of Dallas’ highest potential during this weeklong celebration of one of the most significant leaders of the American Civil Rights movement. Observances include a youth summit for high school students; an interfaith prayer service at Thanksgiving Square; a library showcase with storytelling sessions and art exhibitions at Dallas Public Libraries; networking and service opportunities for millennials; a Selma film screening at Texas Theatre; and much more throughout the week. If you can only attend one or two events, consider these highlights, both at MLK Community Center: a birthday celebration with song and dance performances and the laying of wreaths and flowers on Jan. 15, and a candle lighting ceremony honoring essay contest winners and concluding with a candlelight procession to the MLK statue on Jan. 18.

Celebrate Martin Luther King, Jr. Day at a City of Dallas parade featuring car clubs, horses and riders, high school bands, dance and drill teams, floats, community/civic groups, elected officials and more.

Parade route: Begins at MLK Blvd. at Holmes St., proceeds east on MLK Blvd. to Fair Park.

This is the final event in the 2018 Martin Luther King, Jr. Birthday Celebration which also includes a Community Fair and Candelight Ceremony. All activities are free and open to the public.
